The Irish Youth Music Awards is a National Youth Programme ran by Youth Work Ireland to promote and encourage music participation in young people throughout the Country.
Bands that performed at the event were, Cramptown Spaces, The Perception, Unborn Voices and M.T.B.A.
The competition was very tight with a vast range of talented acts. However, a group of Portlaoise Musicians known as “More To Be Announced” (M.T.B.A.) triumphantly walked away with the victory.
M.T.B.A. consists of five talented young musicians which includes: Gary Maher on vocals, Shaun Costello and John Delaney on guitars, Robert Brennan on drums, and Stephen Kehoe on bass.
The five local lads are beyond excited about the whole experience They are all really looking forward to going onto Liberty Hall for the finals of the IYMAs this April. However, the lads are very much taking the victory in their stride. When asked about the future plans that M.T.B.A. have, guitarist John Delaney, simply answered, “We intend to be home very early tonight, have a nice cup of tea, and to be in bed before ten o’clock.” National Finals is on in Liberity Hall Dublin on Saturday the 28th of April.
Best of luck lads and well done with your first Photoshoot.

This week i started to give Photography lessons to a woman who was a little overwhelmed, distracted, annoyed at the digital rat race. She bought a new camera, her first since the age of Film. It created a feeling of snap shot, quick, reproductive, disposable way of thinking about and taking photographs. It was impossible to find the unique and inventive method she was used to with her old camera. the idea of a delete button seemed wrong. So my main aim is now to inspire and find that timeless tone and mood so that digital a camera can be used with an old age feel. The detail, and control, quality and sharpness, touch and feeling is all different.
This led me to do the following:
People love black and white film… Its mood and romantic energy. It cannot be created on a Computer. Before this era in the history of photography, Photographs were developed on glass – this was know as the Wet Plate Colloidal Process…
producing an old deteriorated looking object but untouchable in my mind when compared to anything we have in photography today.. Amazing one off images that cannot be reproduced after the decision to press your shutter.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Collodion_process
The work of Sally mann is a great example of this process at work.
I recreated the look in photoshop with some old travel images i had on my computer – Photos i really liked and that meant a lot to me i suppose.
I knew i could not create this look or feeling to an old image – so once i had made my effort using Photoshop i printed the files as 10 x 8 and then deleted the raw files from my hard drive.. This is not easy to do but it changes the Print and the way i see it. It has become an object with much greater value to me.

This Project sets out to find a similar beauty to that of a Mountainous Landscape in the Decaying Urban Landscape. The Irish countryside is a place of wonder and beauty that people travel the world around to be apart of. Across this beautiful countryside, exists abandonment, from century old Buildings and Castles to modern isolated Ghost Estates, Schools, Hospitals, Industrial Work Houses, Mines that have all been left to waste and decay.
There is beauty in decay, and excitement in desertion.
Would you consider an invitation to enter a place you would bear in mind not to, fear of what’s inside, fear of trespassing, fear because it is unknown and there is no reason to go inside this place. Why go all the way to a desert in Africa to watch the sunrise?
Because it gives you energy the National Geographic Channel and your front living room cannot give you.
Surprisingly, the silence of these abandoned rooms gets a more energetic reaction. Even though they are scenes of decay and darkness, notice how each image is beaming with light, how the outside world decides to fill the rooms with colour and enthusiasm.
This is an ongoing project that I hope to exhibit or Print in the next year or after. I look forward to the spaces I discover. If you know of any that would fit in here, send me an email with the whereabouts etc.
